Plans for the Christmas season in Seville

Seville never ceases to amaze. As the holiday season approaches, this Spanish city continues to offer exciting activities available for everyone. From visiting a living nativity scene that reaches 700 metres long, to the theatrical play of Don Juan Tenorio in the cemetery, and don’t forget the 40^th anniversary show of the comic brother duo “Los Morancos”. Living Nativity in Sanlúcar La Mayor

The townspeople of the Sevillian village of Sanlúcar la Mayor are famous for their traditional living nativity which will take place this year for its sixth edition with a cast of more than 400 figures. This representation stands out for its realistic recreation of the manger scene in the fields of Judea.

Reaching a total of 700 metres of decoration, the representation will be accompanied by the most well-known Spanish Christmas carols. The living nativity of Sanlúcar la Mayor, resulting from all of the village members spending the entire year working to recreate the landscape and stories of the biblical narration. The manger scene will be available to visit the following days: December 6,7,8,9,13,14 and 15.

Kooza, Cirque du soleil show (until February 23rd)

This year, Cirque du soleil has arrived to pitch its tent in Seville for the first time. The circus company began in 1984 with only 20 street artists and, as of today, Cirque du soleil now has around 4,500 employees. The show Kooza is made up of a cast of 50 acrobats, musicians and singers, combining humour with the most spectacular acrobatic stunts. The show includes impeccable numbers, with musical accompaniment that plays jazz and funk rhythms. Don’t let the once in a lifetime opportunity to see this show pass you by and make note that it will only be in Seville from the 16th of January to the 23^rd of February.

Ice Rink in Sevilla Este (Until the 4^th of January)

In East Seville, the shopping centre Zona Este, invites all ages both young and old to come and enjoy skating on the ice rink located on the lower level of the building. The entire ice rink is approximately 560 metres and costs a small fee of just 5€ to enter. This event, that is fun for the whole family to enjoy together, will be available until January 4^th. Afterward, make sure to grab a bite to eat and share some churros with chocolate milk in the restaurant nearby called “Food Truck”.

Solo Exposition of Rosalind Nashashibi (Until February 4^th)

The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) will host the first personal solo exposition in Spain of the British artist Rosalind Nashashibi, mainly known for her cinematographic work and for her artistic catalogue of paintings and engravings. Through her meditative style films, she reflects an elastic treatment of time and studies different models of life, proposing alternative standards for behaviour in common spaces. In 2017, Nashashibi was nominated for the Turner Prize, a prestigious award given each year to a British artist under the age of 50.

Theatrical drama of Don Juan Tenorio in the Cemetery of Seville (Until the 8^th of December)

The cemetery of Seville, an eternal resting place for the city, is the backdrop chosen by the agency Engranajes Culturales to host Don Juan Tenorio, the religious-fantasy show created by the playwright José Zorrilla. It is a guided and theatrical visit which unites the literary relationship between love and death, drawing from the narration of the Third Act of the drama of Don Juan Tenorio, where the characters Don Juan and Doña Inés find each other on holy ground, to transport the show to a place which culminates in the love between the couple.

Los Morancos show “X 40 +” (December 27-29)

The comic brother duo returns to the city of Seville with a comedy show commemorating the 40^th anniversary of Los Morancos, remembering the professional trajectory of the two brothers, César y Jorge Cadaval, under the direction of the lyricist Lolo Seda. Following the success reach from the past Christmas, Los Morancos return to the Cartuja Center of Seville with their most famous characters and the musical successes of the dynamic duo.

Dance of the Six in the Cathedral (December 8-15)

In honour of the Catholic festival of the Octave of the Immaculate Conception, Seville offers both its inhabitants and visitors the opportunity to experience one of the most deep rooted and well-known traditions of the city: Dance of the Six in the Cathedral. The dance is performed by six people or children singing which takes places in the cathedral of Seville. The tradition began in the year 1439. A highly recognized festivity in the city of Seville, the Octave of the Immaculate Conception, which takes place from Saturday the 8^th to Saturday the 15^th of December, is when the biggest religious temple in Seville opens its doors to a dance with costumes and typical songs that have not been modified since the 16^th century.
